Malaysia is a country firmly wedded to badminton. People love the shuttlecock game in this country, and it’s not just playing and watching. Many Malaysians have registered good success placing wagers on big competitions. WeWin is here to provide a few facts you might be interested in about Malaysian badminton and tips for betting success. Did You Know..?

Malaysia is one of the world’s top badminton countries. Country ranks are determined by the BWF – Badminton World Federation – the official governing body for international badminton. The BWF considers three main competitions in determining rank: Sudirman Cup, Thomas Cup, and Uber Cup. It also finds the placing of a country’s top singles and doubles players on the world’s complete list, awarding big points to the countries with top players. At the time of writing, Malaysia ranks 5th on a complete 10 list dominated by Asian countries, with Denmark and Germany being Europe’s only representatives. The list is updated every 3 months.

Zii Jia: From Outcast To Asian Badminton Champ

Malaysia’s superb ranking on the world list owes a lot to the exploits of one Lee Zii Jia. Jia is the absolute star as far as Malaysian badminton is concerned – the heir apparent to Malaysian legend Lee Chong Wei – and has risen as high as No. 2 in the world in 2022. However, his relationship with BAM – the Badminton Association of Malaysia – is fascinating. Jia once quit the association and, therefore, his national team, opting to play independently rather than facing “the pressure of being on the national side.” It was a decision that shocked many Malaysian badminton fans, but one that received empathy from the then-world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen (Denmark), who posted that “it’s his career and his life after all.” Having expressed its “extreme sadness” at Jia’s move, the association promptly slapped him with a two-year ban, which meant that Malaysia’s golden boy could not participate in any significant competitions – particularly those organized by the BWF. BAM eventually had a sit-down with Jia in January 2022 and confidentially hashed out a deal, thus restoring Malaysia’s badminton hopes. The young shuttler won the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships, entering his name into an illustrious list of just six Malaysian male singles to have achieved the feat.

Malaysian Badminton Betting Strategies

As we’ve previously seen, Malaysia is a top country in badminton. This means the sport is well established in the country, with stars like Lee Zii Jia garnering plenty of interest. Malaysian badminton is a hotspot for Badminton punters, with betting opportunities available all year round. One of the best ways to win more badminton bets is to be a keen follower of its players and teams. Each of them has their own strengths and weaknesses. They can perform excellently at specific types of tournaments and not too well at others. Another tip is live badminton betting. Being a fast-paced sport, badminton matches can turn in moments. Sharp punters, therefore, have the opportunity to beat the bookie by reacting quickly to evolving situations on the court. Last but certainly not least is to ensure proper risk management. This means carefully evaluating each wager to ensure a good balance between potential profit and risk.
